Cameron hammers another nail in Tory Euro-coffin - Tory councilors ordered to abandon their political allies in Europe. New!

Fri 5th Feb 2010

Just months after the Tories abandoned their allies in the European Parliament to side with extremists, racists and homophobes on Europe's political fringe, David Cameron has damaged his party's last remaining influence in Europe by ordering Tory councillors to leave their grouping on the Committee of the Regions*.

According to reports in the local press up to 100 jobs could go as the Conservatives struggle to with a budget, already supported by massive extra borrowing of £6million.

Financial Times Reveals the Flaws in Conservative Tax Plans for Marriage

Mon 11th Jan 2010

The Financial Times has revealed in detail the muddled thinking behind the Conservatives proposals for transferable tax allowances to support marriage. In agreement with local Lib Dems the FT concluded that "The beneficiaries of (the Conservatives') transferable tax allowances are single-earner couples who tend to be at the upper end of the income distribution. The policy is therefore a straight-forward redistribution from poor to rich.

Quotes of the Week

"I hate to say it, but only one party leader seems to have grasped that, if you construct a system where unskilled people are worse off by taking a job than by staying on welfare, they remain trapped in poverty - and that is Nick Clegg."

Lord Norman Tebbit

Daily Telegraph online - 13 Jan

"It's unbelievable that the Tories are still planning to cut taxes for a handful of millionaires when the majority of people across the country are feeling the squeeze. We need fair tax cuts that put money back in the pockets of ordinary people. The Tory sums simply do not stack up. It is irresponsible and highly misleading for George Osborne to continue to pretend that they do."

Vince Cable MP
