Fire at care home

Written by Windsor & Maidenhead Observer Reporter and published in Windsor & Maidenhead Observer on-line on Tue 21st Apr 2009

WINDSOR firefighters were first on the scene after a fire broke out a residential care home last night. (Monday)

A crew arrived at around 8.20pm at Queens Court in Dedworth Road just two minutes after receiving a call that a fire had broken out in a staff changing room on one of the upper floors of the building.

A bin and some paper towels had been ignited producing a large amount of smoke.

One member of staff who had inhaled the fumes received oxygen therapy treatment from firefighters at the scene.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly located the fire and extinguished this with a high pressure hose-reel jet. Slough firefighters arrived a few minutes later and set up a positive pressure ventilation fan for smoke/fume removal.

Both crews remained at the scene for approximately one hour.

No one was injured.
