Borough political advisor resigns after taped phone callWritten by Gareth McPherson and published in Maidenhead Advertiser on-line on Mon 8th Mar 2010
A Tory political assistant at the Royal Borough has resigned following a taped phone conversation in which he apparently plotted to oust the Royal Borough's deputy leader The recording of Andreé Walker's phone call to an unidentified person, was posted on-line and makes reference to Cllr Alison Knight (Con, Sunninghill and South Ascot) the Conservative party's number two in Windsor and Maidenhead. Windsor resident Robert Bobbin, who was sitting near to Mr Walker, recorded the phone conversation on a train on the Waterloo to Windsor and Eton Riverside line on Tuesday night (March 2). The member of the public said he was not politically motivated by releasing the recording and had voted Conservative at the last election. The Royal Borough released a statement but said it did not want to comment further. "Effective from March 5, Mr Andreé Walker has tendered his resignation from his position in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead," it read. "This has been accepted and he is no longer employed by the council." Mr Walker was unavailable for comment.
