Jonathan Pope & Barbara Grant-Adamson inspect the Offending Drains

Residents from Francis Chichester Close have long suffered from flooding in their road every time there is a heavy down pour. Following a round of Focuses they contacted the Focus team to take action.

After organising a street survey to identify all the issues, the Lib Dems then organised a letter writing campaign to the council.

Following the campaign the council cleaned out the drains and sumps and then conducted a CCTV inspection which revealed that tree roots had broken through into the drain causing a blockage. The council then organised to have the tree roots cut out.

Following the works we conducted a follow up survey after the next heavy rainfall to check things had improved.

This is not a permanent solution, as without the drains being relined the roots are likely to grow through again, but it can alleviate the problem in the short run.
