Results Of The Selected PollQuestion:Should Windsor's Fire Station be fully manned 24 hours a day? Our Opinion:The Royal Berkshire Fire Authority propose to close Windsor's Fire Station at night and provide initial response to incidents in Windsor from Slough. The Local Liberal Democrats have been fighting to keep Windsor's Fire Station open and manned full time 24 hours a day. We find it strange that at the same time as proposing to cut front line appliances and fire stations the Fire & Rescue Authority is planning a shiny new Headquarters building. The Lib Dems successfully saw off previous attempts by the Conservative dominated Fire Authority to sell the Windsor Fire Station Site to developers and are now fighting plans to gradually withdraw fire services, starting with reducing Windsor Fire Station to part time manning. More recently Conservative members of the Berkshire Fire Authority voted themselves a 337% rise in their allowances, again opposed by the Lib Dems. The Liberal Democrat Group on the Fire Authority unanimously opposed this pay rise and called for a named vote so that the electors could hold the councillors responsible to account.
