Question:

Should Windsor's Conservative Councillors have voted themselves a 91% pay rise?

Our Opinion:

One of the First things the Conservatives did on taking Office was to vote through a 91% rise in councillors' allowances at a cost of £285,000 a year. At the time inflation on the RPI measure was around 4.2% and other public servants like teachers, nurses and council workers were getting below inflation pay rises around 2.5%. The Liberal Democrat Group unanimously opposed the pay rise and called for a named vote so that the electors could hold the councillors responsible to account. The Liberal Democrat Group on the Fire Authority unanimously opposed this pay rise and called for a named vote so that the electors could hold the councillors responsible to account.
