Disgusted by proposed hike in Cllr allowances

It is with utter disgust that I hear our Tory councillors in the Royal Borough have proposed voting themselves a 91 per cent (yes, 91) increase in councillor allowances!

Politicians are in the unique position of deciding how much they're paid, so like our MPs I hope they show some restraint and don't allow their own greed to get the better of them.

As someone who stood for council recently in Maidenhead Riverside, I don't for a second doubt the hard work that many councillors put in, but I stood not for my own benefit but because I wanted to represent the interests of local people in the best way I saw fit.

But if they vote themselves such a ridiculous pay rise, you would have to wonder whose interests our current councillors really have in mind!
