Lib Dems win ID Card Vote at Royal Borough

23 Apr 2009

The The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead has voted to resist any attempt to make the council participate in trials of the National Identity card after councillors voted to support a Lib Dem Motion proposing to boycott the scheme.

"This is great news, "

says Windsor's Lib Dem Spokesman Julian Tisi.

"The Liberal Democrats have consistently opposed ID cards and it is good that the Conservatives have moved their position on this from fully supporting ID cards under Michael Howard to opposing them now."

The Lib Dems are opposed to ID cards on principle, but also argue that the costs attached to them exceed the benefits - they advocate spending the money on more Police Officers instead.
