New £4.7 million Respite Unit Closes after just a Year

21 Jul 2011

A residential unit, providing respite for carers of learning and physically disabled students at the borough's Manor Green special school has been closed less than a year after opening. The Unit, funding for which was secured under the last Lib Dem Administration of the council, was part of the completely new school finished just over a year ago.

The centre which is managed by the school was used by children from the Royal Borough, Bracknell Forest and Buckinghamshire, however after fees at the respite centre were raised by 780%, from £40 to £350 a night, Bucks County Council decided to pull out its children, making the centre unviable.
