UKIP Must Answer for Opposition to Expenses Reform

27 May 2009

UKIP leader Nigel Farage has been foremost in criticising MPs in the recent expenses row. Now the Liberal Democrats' Ed Davey MP has challenged UKIP to publish details of their MEPs' expenses and to explain their shameful record of voting against reform in the European Parliament.

When Nigel Farage first went to Brussels he promised to publish his accounts annually so that the public could inspect them, but since then he and his colleagues have failed to do so. Two UKIP MEPs have faced criminal charges for falsely claiming benefits, false accounting and money laundering. Meanwhile UKIP has voted against capping MEPs' earnings and making travel expenses more transparent, whilst backing laws at keeping their expenses secret.
